There is an increasing recognition of the need for greater integration in ecosystem studies so that the interactions between global change, human management and ecosystem processes can be investigated, understood, and modelled. The ANAEE (Analysis and Experimentation in Ecosystems) project has been established to consider the potential for a European research infrastructure that brings together scientist, data, and facilities to address experimental ecosystem research scaling up from field experiments and Ecotrons to laboratories and modelling structures. It is a two year project, funded as a Design Study by the EU, reporting in early 2010, that wants to cast the bases for a large-scale European infrastructure capable to cope with the challenge of responding to ecosystem processes altered by the incoming global changes.

Following a series of focused workshops addressing different aspects of the infrastructure: field scale experiments, ecotrons, analytical resources and ecosystem modelling, ANAEE intends to gather the officials of concerned institutions from European countries to account for the results. The objective of the Strategic Meeting in Napoli is to provide recommendations (see following Programme) on how to proceed, consistently with the scientific policies of each European country, in placing a shared proposal for the development of a common research infrastructure for ecosystem Science.

The meeting will be held at the Renaissance Naples Hotel Mediterraneo, located in the heart of the city of Napoli. Attendees are kindly requested to fill-up the attached Registration Form to be further informed for bookings at the Hotel Mediterraneo.
